I originally had 4gb DDR3 ram on my laptop, which was working perfectly fine. My friend upgraded his computer, so he gave me his spare 4gb DDR3 of ram. I inserted it into my ram slot, did not adjust anything in the bios. Windows was showing only 4gbs but when I run CPU-Z it show me the total of 8gb of ram. My windows is not recognizing the 4gb ram. Windows task manager and the BIOS both recognize that 16gb is installed. Windows task manager reports that only 8gb is usable and the other 8gb are "hardware reserved". For sure Windows is only seeing 4 gigs of ram and your hard ware is a little high by about 4X. (gray) In most cases that means ram installed incorrectly or the wrong ram or ram settings. Try something simple first. Re-seat both sticks of ram and then Reboot a couple of times and then take another look at the ram in Resource Monitor.
